Jesus performed miracles – including rising from death

Numerous times throughout the four gospel accounts of the life and death of Jesus, Jesus was seen performing miracles to demonstrate the power of God and the compassion of Jesus.  The miracles of Jesus ranged from the practical to the critical. Water was turned to wine, large quantities of fish were caught, and a fish even paid the temple tax for Jesus!  Countless people were healed of disease, the blind recovered their sight, the mute were able to speak, the lame were able to walk.  People afflicted by demons were set free, and ultimately sin and death were defeated by the resurrection of Jesus on that third day after His crucifixion.

And the great thing is… Jesus still performs miracles today!

John 2: 1-11  On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her,”Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”  Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, ”Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them, ”Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

Luke 5:3-10  Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ”Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, ”Depart from me, forI am a sinful man, O Lord.” For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, ”Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”

Matthew 8:1-3  When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesusstretched out his hand and touched him, saying, ”I will; be clean.”And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

Luke 7:1-10  After he had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people,he entered Capernaum. Now a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him.When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant. And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, ”He is worthy to have you do this for him, for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue.” And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed. For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, said, ”I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well.

Matthew 9:1-8  And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city. And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, ”Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, ”This man is blaspheming.” But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, ”Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic—”Rise, pick up your bed and go home.” And he rose and went home. When the crowds saw it,they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

Luke 7:11-17  Soon afterward he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. And when the Lord saw her,he had compassion on her and said to her, ”Do not weep.” Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, ”Young man, I say to you, arise.” And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, ”A great prophet has arisen among us!” and ”God has visited his people!”And this report about him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.

Matthew 9:20-22  And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, ”Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.

Matthew 9:27-31  And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, ”Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes, saying, ”According to your faith be it done to you.” And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, ”See that no one knows about it.” But they went away and spread his fame through all that district.

Matthew 14:16-21  But Jesus said, ”They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” And he said, ”Bring them here to me.” Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Matthew 14:22-33  Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ”Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, ”Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, ”Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, ”O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, ”Truly you are the Son of God.”
