Ministries
The Bible talks in great length about our mission, given by Jesus, to go and tell the good news; to preach the gospel to all the nations. While not commonly considered, the Bible uses language of war throughout. We are commissioned by Jesus (Matt. 28:19), we have armor to wear (Eph. 6:11), we are armed for battle (Eph. 6:13-18), we fight the good fight of faith (1 Tim. 6:12), and we have a clear enemy (Eph. 6:12).
Based on the language of the Bible, the work of New Life Church is separated into two general categories – the “Air War” and the “Ground War”.
Air War
The Air War describes our ministries that reach a large number of people at once:
- Preaching and teaching
- Websites, technology, and media
- Marketing, technology
The Air War is measurable and often yields instantaneous results.
Ground War
The Ground War describes our ministries that deal with people on a more relational level:
- Small groups
- Discipleship
- Pastoral care and counseling
- Volunteer teams
- Mercy and Benevolence ministries
- Youth and children’s ministry
The Ground War is our ongoing effort to live out our new life in Jesus and point others to him.
A United Effort
As with any successful military effort, both the Air War and the Ground War must be united in order to be mutually effective, which requires a lot of overlap and collaboration.
At New Life, we strive for a good Air War to gather and teach, and a good Ground War to disciple and serve.
