Giving @ New Life
Why should I give?
Giving cheerfully (2 Cor. 9:7), regularly (1 Cor. 16:2), and sacrificially (Luke 21:1-4, 2 Cor. 8:1-3) of our finances is part of worship. A believer does not labor to accrue personal wealth or possessions, but to steward God’s resources well and model Jesus to our brothers, sisters, and community. Our work is an effort to serve God in all things, and one of the primary ways we serve God is by cheerfully giving Him our “first fruits” (discussed below – 2 Cor. 9:7; Pro. 3:9). We call our members to give, believing that the tithe is the starting point, and gladly sacrificing for the sake of the gospel because Jesus sacrificed for us, and all we have is His. We thank those that have helped us to meet these needs, and pray that New Life Church and those touched by this ministry would join in faithful, consistent, God-honoring giving as instructed by Scripture.
What about the tithe (tithing)?
Tithing reflects a grateful heart that wants to give back to God a portion of what He has given us; in reality, what is already His. Tithing is our opportunity to show God that He is first in our lives. James 1:17 says that “every good and perfect gift is from above …,” so we have an opportunity to tangibly show God He is the “owner” of our finances by giving back to Him the first of what He gives us.
